Inspired Imagination

The Demetrius Collection 2010 is an inspirational collection based on a story written over a hundred years ago: Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.

As a child, Jorge Manuel was fascinated by the Disney classic. However, it wasn’t until 20 years later when he read the books "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass"  that the designer truly fell in love with the characters and story. The story’s complexity between a child’s imagination and a real world truly captured his attention.

The challenges to logic inspired the designer to bring an element of fantasy into his dresses. He captures within his creations the struggle between the simplicity of a girl named Alice trying to find her place in a complex Wonderland. Jorge Manuel found that Alice's journey is not as important as the lessons she learns along the way. In a magical place where anything is possible, inevitably Alice discovers that  "different" is not only interesting, but also exciting.

"I've always dreamed of being in a place like wonderland; There I could be anything and do everything. The endless possibilities of creativity would make living a real life fantasy. A dream no one could wake you from," acknowledges the designer. This idea shaped the 2010 Demetrius Collection.

The gowns are as unique as the characters, and each dress reflects the time and place she is within the story. The characters in the campaign appear in chronological order following Lewis Carroll’s original work. Jorge Manuel had as much fun designing costumes for the characters  as he did designing his gowns for this collection.

The "...a story about a girl named Alice" campaign took three months and a group of talented people to bring Jorge Manuel’s vision to fruition. Moreover, It took 15 scenes, 11 characters, 3 animals, 16 dresses and a little help from dresses made from the Etelvina collection to bring “...a Story about a Girl Named Alice...” campaign to life.

The Demetrius Collection 2010 is named after his late grandfather. The man that taught him through example never to give up. Anything in life is possible. Even if your dreams seem far away.
